PORTLAND, OR - August 31, 2026 - Counterculture Church, a Jesus-centered congregation known for welcoming skeptics and spiritual questioners, is moving to a new home in Northwest Portland. The church will hold its final services at its longtime downtown location, 1220 SW Taylor St, through September 12, then open its doors at 1445 NW 26th Ave the following Sunday, September 13, at 11 a.m.

Counterculture has spent recent years gathered in the heart of downtown Portland, drawing a mix of longtime believers and self-described skeptics to its weekly 11 a.m. service. The move comes under the banner “New Location, Same Mission,” a phrase church leaders are using to reassure the congregation that its identity and its invitation aren't changing along with its address.

The church describes its mission as helping people “love Portland as Jesus loves us,” with a focus on three commitments: welcoming skeptics and those with questions about faith, building genuine community, and caring for Portland's vulnerable populations while pursuing justice. Sunday services will continue at 11 a.m. at the new location, with the same teaching, worship, and kids ministry the congregation has known downtown.
