"Travelers want to use their points without having to become an expert to do it," said Adam Morvitz, CEO of point.me. "A great loyalty program isn't the one with an incredible deal every once in a while. It's one where you can find a seat, at a price that makes sense, book it easily, and change your plans if you need to. That's what we measure, and the programs at the top of this list are the ones delivering on it."

The 2026 report uses a scoring framework across eight categories: ease of earning, redemption rates, partner opportunities, redemption experience, award availability, award holds, customer service, and change fee policies. The company used a mix of quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate each program as of August 1, 2026, then calculated an overall score for each program.

"Loyalty has become a strategic lever in global aviation, and for the third year running, the data puts Flying Blue at the top," said Benjamin Lipsey, President, Flying Blue Miles and Senior Vice President, Loyalty, Digital, and Data. "The program carries the strength of Air France, KLM, and Transavia beyond the flight, wherever our members travel and wherever they spend. That connection is one of the Group's defining competitive advantages, and loyalty will remain at the center of how we win and keep customers."

Airline Loyalty Program Trends

The analysis also identified several key loyalty program trends for 2026.

For example, airlines are increasingly reserving their best award pricing and availability for members who carry the airline's credit card. American Express paid Delta a reported $8.2 billion in a single year (Source: Delta.com), and as card portfolios have become among the most profitable parts of an airline's business, programs have followed.

"United now steers most of its Polaris business saver space to cardholders and elites, Delta takes 15% off award tickets for premium cardholders, and JetBlue rebates 10% to 15% on redemptions," said Morvitz. "The card in a traveler's wallet increasingly decides what they can book and what they pay."

Two other patterns emerged this year. Partner award space is shrinking as airlines steer premium inventory to their own members. In addition, flexibility has emerged as a key differentiator among loyalty programs. Only three programs in the report offer free changes and cancellations on all award tickets. The remaining programs either have fees of up to $150 or have some form of restriction on refunds.
